Airtel Uganda is taking a groundbreaking step forward in the world of technology by launching 5G network transmitters in the heart of the country’s capital, Kampala. One of the transmitters is located at Uganda Broadcasting Corporation, showcasing the power of this cutting-edge network.
This move is expected to revolutionize the way Ugandans experience and interact with the digital world. The Central Business District of Kampala is set to be the epicenter of this technological advancement, with the deployment of a 5G network.
The power of this network was recently showcased at Uganda Broadcasting Corporation when Mr. Odoch Williams, UBC’s head of marketing, experienced Virtual Reality (VR) for the first time. In a sideline interview, he said, “As a broadcaster, you need the best network possible to help you transfer data, information, and the necessary content that you give to your audiences, so this connectivity for UBC is great.”
Aware that NITA-U is mandated to supply all government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) with fiber internet, Odoch emphasized that the corporation can no longer depend on one source, so a backup is necessary when there is a shortfall.
At present, 5G network support is limited to new-generation iPhones. However, Airtel Uganda has stated that the demand for this cutting-edge technology is projected to skyrocket in the near future.
“Families are starting to run smart homes with automated gates, workstations, and entertainment facilities. Our network is providing data speeds of up to 1,800 megabytes per second, allowing you to download a 3-hour movie in under thirty seconds,” says David Birungi, PR Manager of Airtel Uganda during this announcement.
As more 5G-enabled devices become available and accessible, the network’s true potential will be unlocked, transforming the way Ugandans use mobile data and interact with the digital landscape.
