The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda is pleased to announce that today, the Honorable John Mulimba, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, received copies of letters of credence from Her Excellency Joselyn Bigirwa, designated Head of Mission to the Republic of Uganda from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). The ceremony took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Kampala.
During the ceremony, Hon Mulimba warmly welcomed Her Excellency Bigirwa to Uganda and expressed Uganda’s commitment to fostering strong and productive relations with IGAD, an important regional organization dedicated to promoting peace, security, and development in the East African region.
Discussions between Hon Mulimba and Her Excellency Bigirwaencompassed a wide range of regional issues, with a particular focus on peace and security in the IGAD region. Both dignitaries reaffirmed the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the various challenges facing the region, including conflict resolution, counter-terrorism, and humanitarian crises.
Hon. Mulimba commended IGAD’s ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region and reiterated Uganda’s unwavering support for IGAD’s peace-building efforts. He emphasized the need for sustained cooperation and coordination among IGAD member states to effectively tackle shared security challenges and create an environment conducive to sustainable development.
Her Excellency Bigirwa expressed her appreciation for Uganda’s active participation in IGAD’s peace and security endeavors and reiterated IGAD’s commitment to working closely with Uganda and other member states to advance the organization’s objectives. She emphasized the importance of inclusive dialogue, reconciliation, and conflict prevention in fostering lasting peace and stability in the region.
Hon. Mulimba and Her Excellency Bigirwa concluded the ceremony with mutual expressions of goodwill and commitment to further enhancing cooperation between Uganda and IGAD for the collective benefit of the region.
The exchange of letters of credence symbolizes the formal accreditation of Her Excellency Joselyn Bigirwa as IGAD’s Head of Mission to Uganda and signifies the beginning of her official duties in the country.
