Former Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, affirms his allegiance to the National Unity Platform (NUP) party amidst internal tensions, stating that he remains committed despite ongoing power struggles.
Addressing reporters today on Tuesday 26th March, 2024, Mpuuga clarified that the recent attempts to oust him from the Parliamentary Commission were not primarily motivated by accountability concerns, contrary to speculation.
Mpuuga advocates for reforms within NUP, proposing the establishment of internal conflict resolution mechanisms to address issues like nepotism, greed, and abuse of power.
“Let me now assure the entire NUP leadership, membership, supporters and the general public, that NUP is my party and I harbor no intentions whatsoever of leaving; I am going Nowhere, rather I’ll in the coming days embark on a process of instituting internal Party reforms to make it a credible and competent Government in waiting” Mpuuga asserted.
He emphasizes that these reforms will coincide with efforts to combat extortion and blackmail within NUP, reaffirming his commitment to the struggle against corruption.
Additionally, Mpuuga denies attending a meeting chaired by NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi, where he allegedly confessed to misconduct, refuting accusations of corruption and pledging to maintain his integrity.
