Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC triumphed in the 2023/24 FUFA Super League season by defeating Kampala Queens FC on the final day. The decisive match, played on Sunday at Kawempe Muslim Valley Ground, saw the hosts secure a 2-0 victory in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd.
The event was graced by FUFA EXCO Member Ronnie Kalema, who officiated the crowning of the champions. Other notable attendees included FUFA CEO Edgar Watson, FUFA Deputy CEO-Football Decolas Kiiza, Uganda Women Football Association (UWFA) Chairperson Margaret Kubingi, and Crested Cranes coach Sheryl Botes.
Despite Kampala Queens dominating the early stages of the first half, they were unable to break the deadlock. Hadijjah Babirye’s goal in the 15th minute was disallowed for offside. Both teams made strategic substitutions before halftime, with Kawempe replacing Mary Kabaculeezi with Allen Nassaazi, and Kampala Queens substituting the injured Winfred Kwatulira with Asia Nakibuuka.
Kawempe Muslim returned stronger in the second half, capitalizing on their opportunities. Agnes Nabukenya opened the scoring with a well-taken free kick in the 67th minute, and substitute Nassaazi secured the win with a header that beat goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro.
The victory saw Kawempe Muslim finish the season with 40 points, ahead of Kampala Queens’ 36 points. This marks Kawempe Muslim’s fifth league title, and their first since the league was rebranded to the FUFA Women Super League in 2019.
