The Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Ruth Nakabirya, chaired a bilateral meeting with the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Petroleum, Muhamed Liban, alongside Kenya Pipeline MD Joe Sang and other KPC leadership. The purpose of the meeting was to review the proposed Eldoret-Kampala Refined Petroleum Products Pipeline.
Originally conceived in 1995 under the Joint Coordinating Commission (JCC) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Uganda and Kenya, the pipeline project aims to cut transportation costs, minimize accidents, and save time. Hon. Nakabirya emphasized the importance of teamwork between the technical teams from both nations to ensure the successful implementation of the pipeline.
Hon. Nakabirya was honored to be received by Joe Sang at the Kenya Pipeline Plaza, accompanied by State Department for Petroleum PS Muhamed Liban and Director Mohamed Birik. The visit marks the beginning of planning and preparation for the proposed Eldoret-Kampala-Kigali pipeline. Presidents H.E. William Ruto and H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni have agreed to extend the pipeline from Eldoret to Kampala, ensuring the supply and security of petroleum products in Uganda.
During her visit, Hon. Nakabirya was briefed on KPC’s operations, infrastructure, and human capacity. She also toured the PS10-Nairobi Terminal to gain a better understanding of the operations. The Kenya Pipeline MD was accompanied by General Managers and managers, including Pius Mwendwa, Dinah Kirwa, Zilper Abongó, Caxton Njuga, Okova Wangaki, and Carol Kiplagat.
Hon. Nakabirya expressed optimism about the project, highlighting that the construction of the pipeline is a step in the right direction for both nations.
