The 3rd edition of the Save River Rwizi Marathon was successfully held in Mbarara district. Organized by the Ministry of Water and Environment regional center-South West, along with the VWMZ, Abahumuza Development Group, LATO Milk, and other partners, the event aimed to raise awareness about the challenges facing River Rwizi, such as encroachment, pollution, and silting. Participants from various districts, including Isingiro, Mbarara City, and Ibanda, competed in 5km, 10km, and 21km races.
The guest of honour, Dr. Callist Tindimugaya, Director for Water Resource Management, represented the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and participated in the run. He encouraged others to contribute to solving the issues affecting the river, which is a primary water source in the region. Other dignitaries included the mayor of Mbarara City and representatives from LATO Milk, Nile Breweries, World Wildlife Fund, and Uganda Registration Services Bureau.
