President Museveni Addresses Kiteezi Tragedy and Urges Caution in Hazardous Areas

President Museveni has extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who tragically lost their lives following the collapse of a rubbish heap at Kiteezi. The President expressed concern over how people were allowed to live near such a hazardous area, noting that even without the collapse, the effluent from the mound poses significant health risks. He highlighted the dangers of living in precarious environments, such as wetlands and riverbanks, and urged Ugandans to avoid settling in such areas. Museveni has directed the Deputy IGG to investigate the incident and report back promptly, while the Prime Minister has been tasked with coordinating the relocation of households in the danger zone. Additionally, the UPDF Special Forces have been deployed for rescue efforts, and the State House Comptroller has been instructed to provide financial assistance to the affected families.
