FUFA’s vision of establishing community-based clubs to engage fans in supporting local football is coming to fruition, as the owners of Busoga United FC have officially transferred ownership of the club to the community of Busoga with immediate effect.
This significant move received the endorsement of the club’s Patron, His Royal Highness the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Wilberforce Kadumbula Nadiope IV, during a meeting with the FUFA President at Igenge Palace on August 16, 2024. The Kyabazinga was represented by his 2nd Deputy Prime Minister, Owek. Noor Ousman, in subsequent meetings.
The legal documents facilitating the transfer of ownership from the previous proprietors to the Busoga community granted FUFA the authority to appoint a transition Executive Committee to oversee the club. In line with this mandate, on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, the FUFA Executive Committee appointed Hajji Abubakar Walubi as Chairman and Madam Diana Hope Nyago as Vice Chairperson. Other committee members include Kitonto Ronnie, Kawanguzi Geoffrey, Nkutu David Nelson, Mukoka Yusuf, Atiisa Patrick, Mutesi Deborah, Sylvia Naigaga, and Mugabi Samuel. Additionally, Mr. Gulere Daniel, a FOMACO II graduate, was named Chief Executive Officer to manage the club’s daily operations.
Furthermore, the Busoga community, consisting of prominent figures from academia, politics, the Busoga Kingdom, civil service, private business, and other well-wishers, has made an initial contribution of UGX 200 million (Two Hundred Million Shillings) and provided other logistics for the club. Mr. Henry Dhikusoka, proprietor of St. Michael International School in Wakiso, has generously offered a bus for the club’s use for any required travels.
FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim, who is also the MP for Budiope East in the Busoga region, contributed training kits, which were handed over today.
The new Executive Committee is scheduled to meet with the club’s players in Jinja on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
