Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Services Department Conducts Major Inspection in Koboko Municipality

In a significant step towards improving sanitation in Koboko Municipality, officials from the Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Services Department, led by Principal Engineer Emmex Turyatunga, conducted their 11th site inspection for a crucial sanitation project. This initiative, backed by financial support from the World Bank, aims to enhance public health and sanitation facilities in the area.

The project encompasses several key components designed to address sanitation needs across different community sectors. Notably, the initiative will see the construction of 14 six-stance VIP toilets across seven schools in the municipality. The schools benefiting from this upgrade include Nyaliro SS, Teremunga P/S, Nyaliro P/S, St. Charles Lwanga College, Ombachi P/S, Nyangiliya SS, and Apa P/S. This improvement is expected to significantly enhance the sanitation infrastructure for students and staff.

In addition to the school facilities, a 13-stance water-borne public toilet is set to be built at Koboko Bus Park. This new facility will provide much-needed sanitation services to travelers and local residents frequenting the busy transport hub.

Healthcare facilities will also see an upgrade with the construction of a three-stance water-borne toilet at Koboko Hospital. This addition aims to improve sanitary conditions for patients and medical staff, contributing to a better healthcare environment.

A major component of the project is the establishment of a Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant. This plant will be crucial for managing and treating waste from the newly constructed facilities, ensuring effective waste management and contributing to a cleaner environment in Koboko Municipality.

The ongoing inspections and project developments are part of a broader effort to enhance public health through improved sanitation. With these upgrades, Koboko Municipality is set to experience significant improvements in sanitation standards, benefiting both residents and institutions.
