On October 26, 2024, Speaker Anita Among joined fellow speakers and presiding officers at the 2nd General Meeting of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures in Accra, hosted by Hon. Sumana Kingsford Bagbin. Together, the leaders advocated for African unity, stronger regional cooperation, and effective resource management to propel the continent’s growth and sustainable development. Their discussions highlighted the need for collective strategies to address shared challenges like poverty, political instability, climate change, and unemployment, emphasizing that Africa’s future hinges on collaboration and solidarity.
During the assembly, Speaker Anita Among was unanimously elected Vice Chairperson of the Forum of African Speakers and Presidents of Legislatures. In her address on the final day, she underscored the importance of African unity in confronting the continent’s challenges. “Our focus must shift towards unlocking the potential of our resources and empowering our people, rather than relying on external aid,” she remarked.
Expressing gratitude for the support of her colleagues, she noted, “With utmost humility, I want to thank my colleagues for their trust in me to serve as the Vice Chairperson of the Forum of African Speakers and Presidents of Legislatures during the 2nd General Assembly of COSPAL, held in Accra. Addressing Africa’s challenges requires united efforts and shared solutions. By prioritizing effective resource management and empowering our people, we can build a sustainable future for Africa.”
