“Senior commanders and personnel of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) participating in the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) have gathered at the International Peace Support Operations Training Centre (IPSO-TC) in Singo for a four-day ‘Lessons Learned’ workshop.
The objective: to exchange experiences, tackle challenges, and fine-tune strategies for future mission achievements.
While inaugurating the workshop, Deputy Commander Land Force, Maj Gen Francis Takirwa, emphasized the significance of assessing progress and enhancing approaches to strengthen stability in Somalia and the broader region. “It is an opportunity to reflect on what we have accomplished, where we have excelled, and areas for improvement,” Maj Gen Takirwa remarked.
He also highlighted the UPDF’s evolution in training leadership, calling it a significant achievement. “Previously, training was entirely managed by external partners, but now the UPDF has assumed leadership,” he mentioned.
Brig Gen John Patrick Otongo, Commandant of IPSO-TC, reiterated the centre’s commitment to fostering regional peace and security through comprehensive capacity-building.
In attendance are Maj Gen David Isimbwa, Deputy Commander of the UPDF Air Force; Maj Gen Don Nabasa, 3rd Infantry Division Commander; Brig Gen Felix Busizori, Commander of the 4th Infantry Division; Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso, Chief of Staff of URDC; Brig Gen Joseph Semwanga, along with training partners and other senior officials.”
