The six-month coaching program under the CAF Coaching Convention resumed for a structured 40 hours from Tuesday, 12th November 2024 to Saturday, 16th November 2024.
Before attending the in-person sessions, participants conducted field visits in two groups one at KCCA FC and the other at NEC FC in Bugoloobi where they observed training sessions and engaged with both clubs’ technical and administrative teams on topics related to leadership and management as part of their internship.
Held at Multitec Business Institute, the module included essential sessions in specialized areas such as leadership, sports science, medical and nutritional aspects, football fitness, and systems for tracking and reporting performance.
Coaches were introduced to the Catapult system to understand its operational requirements, particularly how data is utilized to shape training programs based on scientific analysis.
“We are well aware of the evolving nature of the sport, particularly the merging of science and technology. The FUFA President and Executive Committee made a significant decision to acquire Catapult equipment for both men’s and women’s top leagues. It is gratifying that this goal within the FUFA Technical Master Plan was prioritized. We trained club users as the main implementers of this technology. By incorporating this knowledge into advanced coaching courses, we ensure that head coaches are updated on using the equipment and data to enhance their training regimens for improved results,” stated Ali Mwebe, FUFA Football Development Director.
“It was our chance to delve into the 12 key metrics of volume and intensity monitored and reported by the Catapult One system. It added significant value to our understanding of the system. We were able to ask numerous questions and interact with the data, which is highly informative for creating a well-structured weekly micro-cycle periodization, visualizing the volume and intensity of training sessions from one match to the next,” said Coach Abbey Kikomeko of BUL FC.
The participants also attended a live match observation of the Uganda vs South Africa AFCON Qualifiers as a full group for in-depth match analysis as part of the module’s practical application of match analysis.
The course will move forward to the final module, which includes Block 6 and the examination phase (Block 7), in December.
