Joint Security Forces Recover Firearms in Kotido Through Amnesty Initiative

Joint security forces have successfully retrieved three firearms from individuals in Kotido District following a voluntary handover facilitated through persuasive measures.

The firearms, along with accompanying ammunition, were surrendered as follows:

  1. Lokomol Daudi, a resident of Naryamatolim Cell, Lokitaleabu Town Council, relinquished an SMG (No. 79551) with five live rounds of ammunition.
  2. Lokutu Lochubae, a resident of Kadokin Cell, South Division, turned in an SMG (No. 10427) with two live rounds of ammunition.
  3. Lochu Loose Peter, a resident of Napong Cell, Lokitaleabu Central Ward, Lokitaleabu Town Council, handed over an SMG (No. 1977244449) with one live round.

In accordance with established security protocols, the three individuals were released under the government’s Amnesty Window initiative. This programme enables those who voluntarily give up illegal firearms to be registered, receive disarmament cards, and participate in community reintegration programs.

The initiative seeks to empower reformed individuals by improving their living conditions and encouraging them to become advocates of peace within their communities.

This development coincides with President Yoweri Museveni’s visit to the Karamoja sub-region to evaluate the progress of the Parish Development Model (PDM), a government initiative aimed at increasing household incomes and fostering socio-economic growth.

We continue to appeal to armed groups in the region to take advantage of the Amnesty Window and surrender their weapons.

The success of this programme depends on sustained collaboration with local governments and a comprehensive approach to achieving long-term peace in Karamoja.
