After months of meticulous construction, MV BKK 1 and MV BKK 2 have triumphantly completed their sea trials. This critical phase is the ultimate test for vessels, assessing their strength, stability, and readiness to navigate open waters.
Upon commissioning, these magnificent ferries are set to revolutionize water transport across Lake Kyoga, providing vital links for the communities they serve:
- MV BKK 1: Connecting Bukungu to Kagwara, enhancing accessibility for the vibrant communities of Serere and Soroti.
- MV BKK 2: Bridging Bukungu to Akampala, extending connectivity to Kaberamaido.
Together, these ferries will create seamless routes across more than eight districts in the Eastern region, linking Busoga to Teso, Kaberamaido, and the Lango sub-region.
This transformative project is made possible through a partnership between Government of Uganda and Uganda National Road Authority (UNRA), working with M/S Songoro Marine Transport Limited (SMT) to bring this vision to life.
