Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Meets Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to Strengthen Bilateral Military Ties.

Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and Senior Presidential Adviser on Special Operations, held a meeting with Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, at the National Palace in Addis Ababa on Monday.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of Ethiopia’s armed forces, welcomed Gen Kainerugaba, who was accompanied by his counterpart, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula.

Gen Kainerugaba, who arrived in Addis Ababa on Saturday, engaged in discussions with Field Marshal Jula focusing on military collaboration, including intelligence exchange, joint training, and defense production.

On Sunday, Gen Kainerugaba conveyed his appreciation to Field Marshal Jula for inviting him to visit his “ancestral home, Ethiopia,” through his X platform. “I extend my gratitude to my dear brother, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, for the invitation to my ancestral home Ethiopia. Uganda and Ethiopia share a brotherly bond that can never be broken,” Gen Kainerugaba remarked.

The meeting with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed highlights the dedication to bolstering bilateral relations between Uganda and Ethiopia.

While serving as the Commander of Land Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba previously met with the Ethiopian Prime Minister in 2022, where he toured the Ethiopian Air Force headquarters in Bishoftu and visited the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
