Uganda will host the African Union Extra-Ordinary Summit to consider the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Strategy & Implementation Plan 2026–2035. The summit will take place at Speke Resort Munyonyo from January 9 to 11, 2025, drawing participants from 49 AU Member States and over 2,000 attendees.
To ensure secure and efficient access for dignitaries and participants, some roads leading to Speke Resort Munyonyo will be closed, with traffic diverted to alternative routes to ease congestion and maintain steady traffic flow. The main summit route will be the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway to Speke Resort Munyonyo. Delegates staying in other areas will use alternative routes, such as the Northern Bypass, Binaisa Road, and Old Kiira Road.
The summit route, spanning from Entebbe International Airport via the Kajjansi Interchange to Speke Resort Munyonyo, will be strictly regulated. Traffic diversions and temporary holds will be enforced.
The following diversions will be in place during the summit:
- At Mpala, traffic will be diverted to Entebbe Highway, leaving the Expressway free for convoy use only.
- At Kisubi, traffic will be redirected to Nakawuka Road for access to Kampala City, easing congestion on Entebbe Highway.
- At Kajjansi Flyover, motorists will be guided to Lubowa–Zana instead of the Munyonyo Spur and Expressway.
- Diversions will occur at Serena–Kigo traffic lights, Mutungo–Kitiko traffic lights, and Busabala Junction for vehicles on the Munyonyo Spur.
- A security checkpoint will screen vehicles at Munyonyo Roundabout, diverting traffic to Salaama Road and Buziga.
- Motorists approaching Munyonyo will be diverted at UCB Road to access Buziga–Lukuli.
- On the Northern Bypass, traffic will be redirected at Busega Flyover and slip roads to prevent access to the Expressway.
- Additional diversions will occur at Sentema, Nansana, Bwaise Interchange, and other slip roads.
Traffic police will regulate junction access, holding traffic at least 50 meters away from key points. Routes leading to the summit venue and delegates’ hotels will be sealed off, and motorcycles will not be allowed on the Kajjansi–Munyonyo Spur.
Travelers heading to Entebbe International Airport are advised to plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays.
The public is kindly requested to exercise patience and cooperation during the summit, contributing to the success of this prestigious international event.
