The Minister of State for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hon. Kabuye Kyofatogabye, has officially inaugurated the Kawempe Division Administration Building.
Built with financial support from the government, the structure addresses the persistent issue of limited office space and aims to improve service delivery within the division.
Speaking at the event on January 7, Kyofatogabye expressed appreciation to the government for funding the initiative and applauded the residents of Kawempe for supporting development programs.
“We must also prioritize eradicating poverty at the household level and ensuring proper waste disposal for a cleaner city,” Kyofatogabye stated.
He underscored the importance of the collaboration between the Buganda Kingdom and the government, describing it as crucial for driving progress.
The Buganda Kingdom has been acknowledged for providing the land on which the building stands.
The Acting Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Frank Rusa, stressed the need for inclusivity in urban planning and thanked everyone who supported him during his tenure as acting ED.
“Every structure in Kampala should be accessible to people with disabilities. I also wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to the KCCA team who supported me during my 111 days in acting capacity, enabling us to accomplish this significant achievement,” Rusa remarked.
Deputy Kaggo Phiona Nakalinda, representing the Buganda Kingdom, emphasized that the building was erected on kingdom land, symbolizing the strong partnership between the two entities.
“We appreciate the government for providing the funds that made this project possible,” she said.
Kawempe Division Mayor Emmanuel Sserunjogi expressed gratitude to Ugandan taxpayers, whose contributions financed the construction.
“This project showcases the impact of paying taxes, as the funds have been utilized to transform our communities,” he noted.
Grace Akullo, KCCA’s Director of Administration and Human Resources, highlighted the positive influence of the new facility on staff performance.
“With adequate office space, employees are better equipped to deliver services efficiently. This building will undoubtedly elevate service delivery in Kawempe Division,” Akullo explained.
The facility now accommodates 102 staff members, offering a conducive work environment that is anticipated to boost productivity and enhance service provision for the residents of Kawempe.
