The Chief of Defense Forces(CDF) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, held discussions with his Algerian counterpart, General Saïd Chanegriha, to enhance military cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties.
Gen. Kainerugaba was welcomed with full military honors at the Algerian military headquarters in Algiers, accompanied by senior UPDF officials, including Maj. Gen. James Birungi (Chief of Defense Intelligence and Security), Maj. Gen. Bob Ogiki (Joint Staff Policy and Strategy), and Maj. Gen. Keith Katungi (5th Division Infantry Commander).
High-ranking officials from various Algerian military branches also participated in the meeting, which centered on shared interests and areas of collaboration between the UPDF and the Algerian military.
Key discussions included the forthcoming signing of a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding to formalize the partnership between the UPDF and Algeria’s National People’s Army.
This visit reflects Gen. Kainerugaba’s ongoing commitment to strengthening military ties with countries across Africa and beyond. Since his appointment as CDF, he has engaged in numerous high-level meetings to advance regional and international defense cooperation.
