The National Council of Sports is seeking Shs 379 billion for preparations for the 2027 AFCON, while an additional Shs 5.3 billion is needed to fund the preparation of the national team, the Uganda Cranes. James Kubeketerya, Chairperson of Parliament’s Education & Sports Committee, made the request while presenting his Committee’s report on the 2025/26 Budget Framework Paper for the sports sector before the Budget Committee.
“The Committee recommends that the Ministry of Finance provide Shs 379 billion for AFCON preparations and Shs 5.3 billion for funding the national team’s preparations for major and critical international championships and tournaments,” said Kubeketerya.
The Education Committee also recommended the allocation of Shs 26 billion for the refurbishment of various national stadia, while an additional Shs 3.5 billion is required to operationalize the National Anti-Doping Organization. The NCS is also seeking Shs 10 billion to fund the redesign of the Kitante Golf Course to international standards and to fund the rewards and recognition of talented athletes, while KCCA requires Shs 39 billion for the construction of Phillip Omondi Stadium.
