Uganda-EU Business Insights Unlocks Opportunities for Sustainable Growth

The European Union Delegation to Uganda, in partnership with the Government of Uganda and the Private Sector Foundation Uganda had the pleasure to host the EU-Uganda Business Insights 2025 at the Mestil Hotel Kampala on 13 February 2025.

“We are delighted to have hosted this event, which marks a significant milestone in our efforts to promote sustainable business growth and development in Uganda,” said EU Ambassador to Uganda Jan Sadek. “The EU-Uganda Business Insights 2025 is a platform for Ugandan and European businesses to connect, collaborate, and unlock new opportunities for investment, innovation, and job creation.”

Hon. Francis Mwebesa, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives said: “We are pleased to have partnered with the European Union to promote economic growth and development in Uganda. This event is a testament to our government’s commitment to creating a favourable business environment that supports innovation, entrepreneurship, and investment.”

Background:

The EU-Uganda Business Insights 2025 is part of the European Union’s ongoing commitment to improve the business climate in Uganda, while unlocking opportunities for investment and strengthened collaboration between the European and Ugandan private sector. Building on the success of the previous EU-Uganda Business Forum, which was held in March 2024, this event aimed to further promote economic growth and development in Uganda. The 2024 Business Forum brought together 2000 participants, including 200 EU and 800 Ugandan companies, and resulted in over 400 trial orders valued at over EUR 1 million (UGX 4 billion) and leads worth EUR 700,000. 

Key Outcomes:

  • Over 500 participants, including industry leaders, policymakers, investors, and entrepreneurs gathered to explore opportunities in Agricultural Technology (AgTech) and Sustainable Mining, sectors identified as key drivers of Uganda’s economic growth 
  • The event featured a large exhibition showcasing innovative products and services from Ugandan and European private sector companies, demonstrating the latest technologies and solutions that can drive growth and development in these sectors. A total of 40 companies participated in the exhibition.
  • Keynote addresses and panel discussions were held, featuring expert insights from Ugandan and European industry leaders. The discussions focused on the challenges and opportunities in AgTech and Sustainable Mining, and the role of the private sector in driving economic growth in Uganda.
  • 20 Companies explored investment opportunities from pitching their bankable projects to investors in the sector.
  • The event provided a platform for Ugandan and European businesses to connect, collaborate, and unlock new opportunities for investment, innovation, and job creation. Business-to-business (B2B) meetings were held during the event, resulting in potential investment deals.
  • Seven new Team Europe Initiatives, totalling UGX 120 billion (EUR 30M) in the fields of Agtech and Sustainable Mining were launched.
