Opposition Caucus Meets as Akena Backs Besigye’s Hunger Strike

The Opposition Caucus is set to convene a joint session this morning to deliberate on various matters of national significance. Following the meeting, the Caucus will address the media at 12:00 PM in Conference Room B, where they will provide a summary of the discussions.

Aruu County legislator Christopher Komakech has asserted that Dr. Kizza Besigye’s choice to embark on a hunger strike suggests he may be struggling with suicidal thoughts and mental health challenges. He called on Besigye’s legal team and relatives to ensure he receives psychiatric care.

Former First Son Jimmy Akena expressed support for Besigye’s decision to undertake a hunger strike, stating that it is the only means left at his disposal. He encouraged Ugandans to take this moment to reflect on the persistent interference of security agencies in the country’s political landscape.

“Personally, I believe that the course of action adopted by Dr. Kizza Besigye is a legitimate option for anyone who might find themselves imprisoned for any reason. It is reasonable to utilize whatever means are available. On that note, I stand by his decision. Today, it is Besigye; tomorrow, it could be Akena in the same predicament,” Akena remarked.
