MEMD Partners with Buganda Kingdom to Champion Clean Cooking.

Hon. Dr. Can. Ruth Nankabirwa the Minister for Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development were at Bulange Mengo at UK- Uganda- Buganda event.

The event was aimed at strengthening the collaboration between the Ministry and Buganda Kingdom in the areas of waste management and promotion of clean cooking technologies.

She informed the Kingdom officials who were led by the first Deputy Prime Minister Hajji Twaha Kawase Kigongo that the Ministry has put in place various initiatives fostering towards promoting the use of Clean cooking technologies. Among which include; introduction of tax exemptions and subsides aimed at promoting the adoption of the use of clean cooking appliances/ technologies like LPG, Ethanol and ethanol stoves, introduction of a cooking tarrif to encourage people cook using electricity among others.

“We shouldn’t be stigmatized for talking about clean cooking technologies.” She added.

The First Kingdom Deputy Prime Minister Owek. Hajji Twaha Kawase thanked the people and the representative of the British Ambassador for this collaboration.

He stressed that, the time to conserve environment is now because the population is increasing but the world is not increasing.

“Buganda alone has 18 sub counties but the way we are using the resources its as if we are the last generation,
these are the innovations that we need now” added Hajji Twase.

The kingdom has a strategic plan in which village chiefs are encouraged to sensitise people on the dangers of environmental degradation.

The representative from the British High commission thanked the kingdom for this partnership. He informed the officials that using clean cooking technologies saves 60% on environmental conservation.

Owek. Hajjati Mariam Nkalubo the Kingdom Minister for Water and Environment, Owek. Noah Kiyimba from office of Nabagereka, Owek. Israel Kazibwe Kitoke, the Kingdom Minister of information and also the spokesperson for the kingdom among other officials.
