Six suspects arrested by the National Forestry Authority (NFA) over illegal forestry activities in Mabira Central Forest Reserve (CFR) have been arraigned in court today at the Standards, Wildlife, and Utilities Chief Magistrate’s Court in Makindye.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Her Worship Kamasanyu Gladys Musenze, the suspects, Twalik Mugabo and Sebufu Edrisa, were charged with unlawful possession of timber and charcoal obtained illegally from Mabira CFR on March 22, 2025, in Bulengeza Village, Mukono District.
The other four suspects, including NFA patrolmen, a forest supervisor, and a police officer, were charged with neglect of duty for allegedly failing to protect Mabira CFR from illegal activities.
All six suspects pleaded “Not Guilty” and were remanded to prison until April 14, 2025, when they will reappear in court for a hearing and bail application.
