In the early hours of Saturday, May 3, 2025, a fatal accident occurred at the Busabala Flyover traffic lights, tragically claiming the life of Rajiv Ruparelia son of Business tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia. The crash happened at approximately 1:54 AM.
According to a statement released by the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, the incident involved a Nissan GTR, registration number UAT 638L, which was traveling from Kajjansi in the direction of Munyonyo. Preliminary findings suggest the driver lost control after hitting temporary pavement structures at the flyover’s roundabout section. The high-speed vehicle overturned and burst into flames, resulting in the driver’s instant death.
Rajiv Ruparelia, who was alone in the vehicle at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and authorities have pledged to keep the public informed as more details emerge.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” said SP Michael Kananura, spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety.
The incident has drawn attention to road safety concerns, particularly regarding construction zones and temporary installations on major routes.
