Seventy-nine personnel from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), currently deployed under the United Nations Guard Unit (UNGU) in Somalia, have successfully concluded an intensive Battlefield Emergency First Aid (BEFA) training course.
The programme, facilitated by the United Nations Transitional Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) in partnership with the United Nations Support Office, aimed to enhance the soldiers’ capability to deliver swift and efficient medical care in combat environments.
The trainees acquired vital lifesaving skills, such as fundamental life support, management of wounds and trauma, control of severe bleeding, infection handling, thorough casualty evaluation, and hypothermia treatment.
The training’s practical and interactive approach emphasized the critical importance of timely medical response in reducing combat-related deaths and limiting the extent of injuries.
This effort reflects the UPDF-UNGU’s continued commitment to mission preparedness and its valuable role in supporting global peacekeeping initiatives in Somalia.
