From November 26th to 30th, 2025, Uganda will take center stage as it hosts the highly anticipated inaugural AWISI Summit—Uganda Edition—bringing together women in sports, leaders, and stakeholders from across Africa for a transformative experience of empowerment, connection, and celebration.
Organized by the African Women in Sports Initiative (AWISI), a Uganda-headquartered non-profit, the summit marks a monumental step in bridging the gender gaps within the sports industry across the continent. With a bold vision of fostering inclusivity and equity in sports, AWISI is rallying voices and talents from 27 African countries, uniting over 650 women from diverse sporting disciplines.
The summit follows AWISI’s powerful debut launch at Safaricom’s Michael Joseph Center in Nairobi and now looks to build on that momentum in the heart of East Africa—Uganda, the Pearl of Africa. Participants and partners can expect a rich blend of empowerment sessions, strategic networking, and immersive tourism, all designed to elevate the role of women in African sports.
“This summit is more than just an event—it’s a movement,” said Dr. Mariam Mell’Osiime Mpaata, President of AWISI. “We are rewriting the narrative, breaking down barriers, and creating a new era for women in sports, one where opportunity and visibility are not the exception, but the norm.”
The AWISI Summit Uganda will not only shine a spotlight on sports but also promote Uganda’s tourism gems—from the source of the Nile to the breathtaking rainforests where gorillas roam, giving visitors a taste of the country’s natural and cultural heritage.
As AWISI extends a call for partnerships and collaborations, the organizers emphasize that collective support is key to ensuring this landmark event becomes a lasting legacy for African women in sports.
So, mark your calendars, pack your bags, and prepare to be part of history in the making.
