Lira Hospital Applauded for Exceptional Care and Compassionate Service

In a tweet message shared online, a Ugandan named Francis Obita praised Lira Regional Referral Hospital (LRRH) for its exceptional medical care and compassion during a critical time for his family.

Obita’s elderly mother was recently admitted to the facility with a severe and complex pulmonary condition, one so delicate that transferring her to another hospital was deemed too risky. “She was as good as gone,” Obita shared, describing the gravity of the situation when they arrived at LRRH 15 days ago.

Against all odds, his mother received dedicated and expert care from the hospital’s medical team. For ten days, she was on cardiopulmonary support, and Obita noted that essential medical supplies including oxygen and specialist medications were consistently available. Some medications not in stock, such as Tenecteplase and Axaban, were quickly identified by the team and sourced from Kampala.

“What stood out was not just the professionalism, but the humanity of the doctors and nurses,” Obita wrote. He specifically thanked Drs. Olila, Opio, and Omach, as well as nursing officers Racheal, Vanon, Rhoda, Eunice, and Sharon, praising their tireless commitment to patient care.

Obita was also impressed by the hospital’s cleanliness and well-maintained facilities often a concern in many public hospitals.

“We are all very grateful for the services we received at LRRH. The health system is blessed to have you,” he wrote.

The tribute ended with special recognition to Uganda’s Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, under whose leadership Obita credits the transformation of Lira Hospital into what he called “the gift that keeps giving.”

The story serves as a powerful reminder of the life-saving potential and dedicated personnel within Uganda’s public health system, often under-recognized but deeply impactful to the communities they serve.
