The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced the immediate suspension of all defence and military cooperation activities with the Federal Republic of Germany.
In a press statement dated 26 May 2025 and issued by the Department of Defence Public Information at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs headquarters, the UPDF cited “credible intelligence reports” indicating that the German Ambassador to Uganda, His Excellency Mathias Schauer, is allegedly involved in subversive activities within the country.
According to the statement, Ambassador Schauer is accused of engaging with hostile pseudo political-military groups that are operating against the Ugandan government. The UPDF emphasized that the suspension will remain in effect until the matter is fully resolved.
The move marks a significant diplomatic development and signals heightened concerns over foreign involvement in Uganda’s internal security affairs.
