At the 12th Regional Oversight Mechanism (ROM) Summit, Ambassador João Samuel Caholo, Executive Secretary of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), expressed deep appreciation to Uganda for hosting the important gathering. In his remarks, he reaffirmed ICGLR’s unwavering commitment to promoting peace and stability across the Great Lakes Region.
Ambassador Caholo emphasized the urgent need for stronger coordination among member states, rooted in mutual respect for sovereignty and inclusive engagement. He specifically highlighted the vital role of youth and women in peacebuilding efforts, stressing that sustainable peace must reflect the voices and aspirations of all.
Describing the summit as a pivotal moment for regional collaboration, he called for unity and sustained political will to fully implement the Peace, Security, and Cooperation Framework. His message was clear: lasting peace in the Great Lakes Region requires both collective effort and inclusive leadership.
