The National Resistance Movement (NRM) First National Vice Chairman, Alhajji Moses Kigongo, and the party’s Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, today convened with the recently elected chairpersons from districts, cities, and municipalities.
Accompanied by the party’s Vice Chairman for the Western Region and Minister of ICT, Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, the top officials congratulated the new leaders on assuming responsibilities aimed at propelling the party’s agenda forward.
While speaking during the three-day engagement held at Hotel Africana in Kampala, under the theme “Strengthening Leadership and Accountability for Improved Service Delivery,” Alhajji Kigongo encouraged the chairpersons to remain adaptable in various circumstances. He emphasized the importance of adjusting strategies when necessary to meet specific objectives.
He also advised them not to alienate those who express interest in joining the party.
“There are many individuals who may wish to become part of the Movement. Do not drive them away—embrace them. NRM is a people-centered party with room for all,” said Kigongo.
In addition, he warned against members opting to run as independents after losing in party primaries, stressing that such actions would not be tolerated by the party’s leadership.
The Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Todwong, revealed ongoing plans to revise the Local Government Act to ensure that all NRM leaders, from village to district levels, who are not serving as elected chairpersons, are recognized as ex-officio members.
“We are working on amending the Local Government Act to enable all NRM chairpersons from the grassroots to the district level to serve as ex-officials,” Todwong stated.
He further urged the new leaders to actively engage with citizens in their communities and work to mend any disconnect that may have emerged over time.
