UNOC Signs Early Project Activities Agreement with VIVO to Advance LPG Offtake from Upstream

The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) has today signed an Early Project Activities Agreement (EPAA) with VIVO Energy, marking a significant step towards the commercialisation of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) from Uganda’s upstream oil operations.

The EPAA is a key milestone that paves the way for early technical and preparatory work essential to enable UNOC’s offtake and marketing of LPG. Under this agreement, UNOC and VIVO will jointly undertake critical activities including Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and comprehensive feasibility studies.

The Kingfisher and Tilenga projects are expected to produce a combined annual LPG output of 100,000 metric tonnes. The proposed UNOC-VIVO joint venture will be responsible for off taking and marketing the Government and UNOC’s share of this allocation.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ms. Proscovia Nabbanja, Chief Executive Officer of UNOC, said: “This partnership with VIVO is a testament to our commitment to maximizing the value of Uganda’s petroleum resources while delivering clean and affordable energy solutions for Ugandans. The EPAA will facilitate critical early-stage planning and design work to unlock LPG opportunities from the upstream.”

The CEO of VIVO Energy added: “This agreement formalizes our collaboration with UNOC and sets a strong foundation for public-private sector efforts to provide safe, accessible, and sustainable energy solutions to Ugandans.”

This initiative supports Uganda’s energy transition agenda by promoting LPG as a cleaner alternative to traditional biomass fuels, thereby improving energy access and reducing environmental and health impacts associated with wood and charcoal use.

UNOC remains committed to working with strategic partners to deliver value across the petroleum value chain and contribute to Uganda’s socio-economic development.
