The Uganda Hotel Owners Association (UHOA) has extended financial support to the Uganda Tourism Association (UTA) to facilitate the smooth running of its secretariat and sustain its critical advocacy role for the tourism sector.
During a recent engagement between UHOA Board Chairperson, Mrs. Suzan Muhwezi, and UTA President, Mrs. Yogi Biriggwa, UHOA commended UTA for its tireless efforts in uniting and representing the sector. “We are members of UTA and we pay membership, but that alone is not enough for now. Our board has stepped in to rescue your operations because we see the progress you are making even with limited resources,” Mrs. Muhwezi remarked.
This support comes at a crucial time when UTA is intensifying its lobbying and advocacy efforts, despite longstanding financial challenges that have hindered its ability to fully reclaim its position as the apex body for the tourism private sector.
Expressing gratitude, Mrs. Biriggwa noted that the relief funds will provide the much-needed capacity for UTA to continue addressing critical sector issues. She emphasized that UTA’s greatest strength lies in fostering cohesion among its diverse members and partners across the tourism value chain.
In recent Months, UTA has held a series of strategic engagements with stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector players, and development partners. These dialogues are aimed at mobilizing support for financing, capacity building, and the joint promotion of Uganda as a competitive tourism destination.
UTA continues to demonstrate the value of stakeholder engagement and effective sector management in driving collective growth for Uganda’s tourism industry.
