Government and Uganda Red Cross Urge Employers to Prioritize First Aid Training at Workplaces

The Government of Uganda, in partnership with the Uganda Red Cross Society, has called on employers to prioritize first aid training as a life-saving tool in workplaces, particularly in factories and other high-risk environments.

Speaking at the launch of the First Aid Blended Learning (FABL) App in Kampala, the Minister of State for Gender, Labour and Social Development (Labour, Employment, and Industrial Relations), Hon. Davinia Esther Anyakun, stressed the need for employers to conduct in-house first aid training to minimize workplace injuries. She noted that monitoring teams have raised concerns about the high incidence of accidents at work, underscoring the urgent need for effective first aid response.

The FABL App, developed by the Uganda Red Cross Society with support from the Government of Belgium, combines online learning with practical sessions to provide a more flexible and inclusive approach to first aid training. Uganda Red Cross Society Secretary General Robert Kwesiga emphasized that prioritizing education and sensitization on first aid is the most effective way to manage injuries and save lives.

The initiative is expected to improve workplace safety, empower employees with critical life-saving skills, and contribute to better health and safety standards across the country.
