The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) has announced plans to construct the Karuma–Tororo 400kV transmission line, a major step towards expanding the country’s power infrastructure.
The project will run from the Karuma Hydropower Plant to the proposed 400/200kV Uganda–Kenya border substation, covering approximately 346 kilometers with a corridor width of 60 meters. It will traverse 15 districts, 85 sub-counties, and 640 villages, impacting 8,751 project-affected households (PAPs). The districts include Kiryandongo, Oyam, Kole, Lira, Dokolo, Kalaki, Soroti, Ngora, Kumi, Bukedea, Butebo, Budaka, Mbale, Manafwa, and Tororo.
Implementation will be carried out by Kalpataru Power Transmission Limited. Once complete, the project will provide adequate transmission infrastructure to meet Uganda’s growing energy demands, boost social and economic development, and improve the standards of living for the population.
