The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, Honorable General Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, on 9th September 2025, received Her Excellency Fatima Fernandes Juarez, Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Hon. Odongo warmly welcomed Ambassador Juarez and her delegation, commending the cordial relations between Uganda and Venezuela. The Ambassador expressed appreciation for the warm reception she has continued to enjoy since her arrival earlier this year, noting that Uganda truly feels like home.
During the meeting, Ambassador Juarez conveyed an official invitation from Her Excellency Yván Gil, Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, for Hon. Odongo to participate as an Honourable Speaker at the upcoming International Forum on “Colonialism, Neocolonialism and their Consequences”, to be held in Caracas, Venezuela, on October 2–3, 2025. The Forum, under the theme “For Truth and Historical Justice!”, will examine the legacy of colonialism and its modern manifestations, including economic neocolonialism, territorial disputes, financial domination, and calls for historical reparations.
Furthermore, Ambassador Juarez proposed the establishment of a Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) between Uganda and Venezuela, with discussions scheduled for March 2025.
In response, Hon. Odongo reaffirmed Uganda’s solidarity with Venezuela. He welcomed the proposals for enhanced cooperation and assured that Uganda remains committed to strengthening bilateral relations as well as working together in multilateral fora.
Both sides concluded by reiterating their determination to deepen cooperation in the spirit of friendship and mutual respect, and to continue working together for peace, justice, and prosperity.
