Libreville, 15th September 2025: H.E Farid Kaliisa, Ambassador of Uganda to the Gabonese Republic Presents Credentials to H.E. Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, President of Gabon

H.E Farid Kaliisa, Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to the Gabonese Republic presented credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to His Excellency Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, President of the Gabonese Republic, on 15th September 2025 at Statehouse in Libreville, Gabonese Republic. Ambassador Kaliisa extended greetings of friendship and esteem to His Excellency Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema from His Excellency President Yoweri K. Museveni.

President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema received the credentials of Ambassador Farid Kaliisa and congratulated him regarding the diplomatic representation of the brotherly country. He appreciated the good message of esteem and friendship from His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and the commitment of both countries to diplomatic representation in each other’s capital, which is an affirmation of the good and friendly bilateral relations between the two countries. He revealed that the cordial relations are shaped by shared mutual interests, and belonging to regional and international fora. He assured the Ambassador of his government support in discharge of his duties in the Gabonese Republic and wished him a successful tour of duty.

The President noted the encouraging perspectives and areas of cooperation between the two countries that where evident during his visit to Uganda in August 2024. The exchanges during the State Visit to Uganda enabled the two countries to establish convergence of views on issues of common interest in the diplomatic and political fields, agriculture, defense health among others. He sought the support of the Ambassador to consolidate this relationship and work hard with determination in close consultation with competent Gabonese authorities. He called for increased exchange of visits, and invited the Ambassador to visit the Special Investment Zone of Nkok of the Gabonese Republic to explore opportunities for Uganda entrepreneurs to expand their businesses in the Gabonese Republic.

Ambassador Kaliisa affirmed his resolve to ensure effective representation and strengthened fraternal bilateral relations between the two countries and the peoples. He thanked His Excellency Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and Government of the Gabonese Republic for hosting him. He also affirmed Uganda’s commitment to exploring opportunities in the Gabonese Republic, and following up on the agreed areas of cooperation in the fields of defence and training, agriculture, health, and trade. #END

About bilateral relations between Uganda and Gabonese Republic

1.   Uganda and Gabon enjoy mutual and cordial bilateral relations and cooperation demonstrated in collaboration in areas of diplomatic and political cooperation, security, economic development, and regional stability. Both countries maintain diplomatic representation at the level of Ambassadors Extra-Ordinary and Plenipotentiary through their resident Missions in Kinshasa that are accredited to each other capitals.

2.   In 2024, His Excellency Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, President of the Gabonese Republic paid a State Visit to Uganda at the invitation of his counterpart, His Excellency President Yoweri K. Museveni. H.E. Mrs. Zita Oligui Nguema, First Lady of Gabonese Republic also paid a working visit to Uganda during the launch of the Women’s Optimal Health Framework (WOHF) in 2024, and there have been official visits from Uganda to Gabon as a follow up on agricultural programmes being initiated between the two countries.

3.   On tradable products,

i.            Uganda exported $612,000 products to Gabon in 2023 that included, mainly aluminum, articles of iron or steel, plaiting materials and basketwork, aircraft and spacecraft, edible vegetables, cereals, milling products, oil seed and fruits, machinery and nuclear reactors, paper and paper board, furniture, footwear, printed books, ceramic products, plastics etc.

ii.          Gabon exported $167,000 products to Uganda in 2023 that included, mainly; Optical and medical apparatus, electrical and electronic equipment, machinery and nuclear reactors, mineral fuels and oils, articles of steel, copper etc.

4.   The two countries are due to conclude Cooperation Framework Agreement that will underline cooperation in various fields of political and diplomatic, trade, agriculture, energy and mineral resources, security and defense, education, ICT, transport, tourism, culture, private sector business among others. This will culminate in hosting of the first Joint Permanent Commission and Business/Investment Forum.
