Uganda Cranes Depart for Botswana Ahead of Crucial 2026 World Cup Qualifier

A section of the Uganda Cranes squad set off early Sunday morning for Botswana ahead of their crucial penultimate 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against the Zebras.
The team, which departed Entebbe International Airport at 2:45 a.m., included all the home-based players alongside Jude Ssemugabi, who features for Jamus FC in South Sudan.


The rest of the foreign-based players are expected to link up with the camp directly in Botswana.
FUFA Executive Committee Member Ronnie Kalema is heading the delegation.
Uganda is scheduled to face Botswana on Thursday, 9 October 2025, at Francistown Stadium before wrapping up the qualification campaign away to Algeria on 14 October 2025.


At present, Uganda occupies second place in Group G with 15 points, trailing leaders Algeria by four. Other teams in the group include Guinea, Somalia, Mozambique, and Botswana.
