Uganda Marks 63 Years of Independence: Tanzania and Uganda Reaffirm Strong Bilateral and Regional Ties

The High Commission of the Republic of Uganda in Tanzania hosted a colorful celebration to mark the 63rd Independence Anniversary of Uganda, reaffirming the enduring bonds of friendship, cooperation, and shared prosperity between the two neighboring nations.

The event, held at the Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam, brought together senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, the business community, Ugandans in the diaspora, and friends of Uganda to commemorate more than six decades of freedom, unity, and progress.

Representing the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Cosato Chumi, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, congratulated Uganda on this milestone and underscored the strong bilateral relations that continue to thrive under the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) established in 2017, which provides a framework for cooperation in key areas such as trade, infrastructure, energy, and security.

Also in attendance was the Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC), H.E. Veronica Nduva, who joined other dignitaries in celebrating the enduring partnership between Uganda and Tanzania and the broader spirit of East African integration.

In his remarks, H.E. Col. (Rtd.) Fred Mwesigye, High Commissioner of the Republic of Uganda to the United Republic of Tanzania, highlighted the deep-rooted friendship and shared history between the two nations, founded on mutual respect, solidarity, and regional cooperation.

Uganda’s 63rd Independence Anniversary is a reminder of the deep blood ties and historic cooperation between our two nations. Tanzania has remained a steadfast partner to Uganda in political, economic, and social spheres,” Ambassador Mwesigye stated.

He extended appreciation to the Government and people of Tanzania for their continued partnership in advancing regional development through joint initiatives that promote peace, trade, and the well-being of citizens in both countries.

The celebration also showcased Uganda’s rich tourism and cultural heritage through vibrant traditional performances and an exquisite culinary display of Ugandan delicacies, including Matooke, Kalo, Malakwang, and Luwombo. The evening provided guests with a true taste of Uganda’s diversity and warmth, capturing the essence of the “Pearl of Africa.”

The event underscored the strong and growing partnership between Uganda and Tanzania, anchored in peace, unity, and shared aspirations for sustainable prosperity across the East African region.
