The Ministry of Water and Environment, through its Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department and with funding from the World Bank, is implementing the Kitega Rural Growth Centre (RGC) Water Supply and Sanitation System Project in Kaliro District.
A team led by Eng. David Bateganya, the Principal Engineer at the Ministry, alongside key stakeholders, conducted the 7th site inspection to review and assess progress of the ongoing works, which currently stand at 80% completion.
The project seeks to tackle persistent water scarcity and sanitation challenges affecting 16 villages across five parishes in Bukamba Sub County. Once completed, it will supply clean and safe water to residents, transforming lives through improved hygiene, reduced disease burden, and enhanced economic productivity.
The works, contracted to Ms Royal Techno Industries Ltd, are expected to significantly uplift the social and economic well-being of the beneficiary communities by ensuring reliable access to clean water and proper sanitation facilities.
Upon completion, the system will be officially handed over to Umbrella Watsan-East for operation and maintenance, ensuring long-term sustainability of the water supply services.
