MTN Uganda has rolled out the third phase of its Change makers Initiative, committing Shs 500 million through the MTN Foundation to support 25 new community projects in education, health, water and environmental sustainability, and livelihoods.

At the launch in Kampala, MTN Uganda’s Chief Marketing Officer, Sylvia ElSheikh, said the program backs practical, people-focused solutions. “The true value of technology lies in its ability to enhance human experiences,” she said, adding that the new round aims to partner with local groups tackling grassroots challenges.

Since its inception, the initiative has supported 50 projects, which MTN says have reached more than 165,000 people across five sub-regions. In phase two, the Foundation received 2,400+ submissions; 295 were shortlisted and 25 were funded for implementation between October 2024 and March 2025. Previous grants have gone to projects such as remedial education for at-risk youth, rural water access, and small-scale eco-innovation.

George William Egaddu, Chair of the MTN Foundation Uganda Board of Trustees, said the focus remains on solutions that deliver measurable community benefits and align with MTN’s Ambition 2025 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. “We’ve met people working with limited means to solve local problems. With targeted support, these efforts can scale,” he said.

ElSheikh urged prospective applicants to submit proposals for funding under the new phase.
