The Uganda Police Force has condemned growing acts of aggression against its officers during the ongoing presidential campaigns, warning that such behavior has become intolerable and will be met with firm action.
Police spokespersons said that while most campaign activities have been peaceful, a few individuals have turned violent, damaging police vehicles, assaulting officers, and creating chaos at campaign venues. Authorities have now begun holding specific perpetrators accountable.
The statement highlighted an incident on October 28, 2025, when supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) allegedly attacked police officers trailing the NUP presidential candidate, Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi, on the route from Lira City to Alebtong District.
According to police, the group stopped and vandalized a police vehicle (registration UBK 380Q) near Obot A Village, punctured its tyres, and stole fuel, personal belongings, and a laptop. Ten suspects have since been arrested and detained at Lira City Central Police Station, while investigations continue under charges of malicious damage and robbery.
Police also reported earlier incidents involving attacks on officers during campaign events in Mayuge, Kyankwanzi, Kakumiro, and Busia districts, resulting in injuries and damaged vehicles.
The Force reiterated its commitment to providing security for all candidates but warned that it will not tolerate criminality or hooliganism.
โCandidates and their supporters are urged to conduct themselves with civility, follow agreed campaign routes, and respect the law to ensure a peaceful campaign period,โ the statement concluded.
