Senior Presidential Advisor on Agriculture, Peace Rugambwa, has delivered more than UGX 150 million to community groups in Kabale, fulfilling President Yoweri Museveni’s directive to support Ugandans who lack start-up capital.
Rugambwa, who also chairs the Boona Bagaigahare Nyekundire Group, said the President sent her to directly empower “the common person,” noting that some government representatives fail to fully deliver services on the ground.
During her outreach, she extended financial support to several registered groups across Kabale Municipality, including:
- Owino Market Vendors – UGX 50 million
- Boda Boda Riders – UGX 20 million
- Ghetto Youth – UGX 15 million
- Tomato Traders – UGX 10 million
- Fresh Foods Traders – UGX 10 million
- Central Market Matooke and Cassava Traders – UGX 10 million
- Car Wash Operators – UGX 5 million
Other groups also benefited, bringing the total to over UGX 150 million.
Rugambwa said the funds were deposited directly into the accounts of verified associations, while groups that had completed registration received cash to ease immediate business needs. She urged beneficiaries to invest the money wisely to grow their enterprises and improve household incomes.
She also cautioned against forming briefcase groups to chase funds, advising communities to organize genuine associations since support will continue reaching all deserving groups.
The assistance will be accessed interest-free for about four months, after which a minimal fee such as UGX 10,000 for every UGX 1 million borrowed will be introduced to sustain the revolving fund.
Beyond supporting traders, Rugambwa has also been reaching out to vulnerable families in Kabale with mattresses, blankets, and other essentials, a gesture residents say has restored confidence in government-led initiatives.
Rugambwa reiterated her pledge to ensure President Museveni’s efforts reach the grassroots.
“I will continue touching people’s lives. That is the mission the President has given me,” she said.
