The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, today conducted an inspection of an L-39 Skyfox aircraft prototype at the UPDF Entebbe Air Base, where it was showcased by its manufacturer.
A team from Aero Vodochody, led by Mr. Vladan Resner and including Mr. David Jahoda and Mr. Vladimir Tovarek, briefed the CDF on the aircraft’s advanced capabilities, outlining technical features of the modern turbofan-powered trainer and light-attack aircraft.
The Commander of the Air Force, Lt Gen. Charles Okidi, along with other high-ranking Air Force officials, attended the demonstration and technical session.
Gen. Kainerugaba emphasized the critical need for ongoing technological enhancement within the Air Force, stressing that the development of a modern air component remains a central strategic objective. He has previously highlighted that the Air Force’s evolution began from humble origins within the National Resistance Army (NRA), which initially operated without an aviation wing.
His commitment to comprehensive modernization of the UPDF spans equipment upgrades, high-level training, and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening operational capability, resource optimization, and personnel welfare. Assessing next-generation platforms such as the L-39NG aligns with this practical approach to expanding defence capacity.
If procured, the aircraft is anticipated to significantly improve pilot training programs while offering additional support for light combat missions.
