Over 18,000 Boda Riders Trained by Uganda Red Cross and Prudential

Members of the public are being called upon to join efforts in promoting road safety and learning basic first aid skills to help reduce road accidents and injuries resulting from reckless behaviour on the roads.

This appeal was made by the Secretary General of the Uganda Red Cross Society, Mr. Robert Kwesiga, during the grand finale of the Safe Steps Phase III campaign held at Nakawa Vocational Training Institute.

The campaign covered the Kampala Metropolitan Area, comprising the five divisions—Central, Makindye, Rubaga, Nakawa, and Kawempe—as well as neighbouring areas in Wakiso District, Entebbe, and Mukono District.

In Phase II and subsequent phases, the initiative expanded to other parts of the country, including Mityana, Masaka, Mbale, and Mbarara districts.

Campaign statistics indicate that 4,000 riders were trained during the 2022–2023 period, 8,000 in 2023–2024, and 6,000 riders in 2024–2025.

“As of mid-2025, with the launch of Phase III, the campaign continues to actively train riders in the Kampala Metropolitan Area, Mukono, Entebbe, Mbale, Masaka, and Arua District,” Mr. Kwesiga noted.
