UPDF Medical Team Reviews Patients After Successful Kigezi Anniversary Outreach

The UPDF medical team has begun a post-operative review of patients who received treatment during the recent free medical outreach in the Kigezi sub-region, held as part of activities marking the force’s 45th anniversary.

The follow-up exercise is being conducted in Kisoro, Rubanda, Kabale, Rukiga, Rukungiri, and Kanungu districts, with the aim of assessing patient recovery, providing continued medical guidance, and ensuring continuity of care. Early findings show positive recovery outcomes, with no major post-surgical complications reported so far.

According to the Joint Staff Political Commissariat, Maj Gen Henry Masiko, the initial outreach treated 50,625 patients, including 578 surgical procedures. He said the review is intended to monitor patients who underwent surgery and urged beneficiaries to return to the health facilities where their procedures were conducted.

At Chahafi Health Centre IV in Kisoro, beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the UPDF and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for bringing specialized medical services closer to communities. Several patients, including children and women who had endured long-standing medical conditions, reported improved health following successful surgeries.

Health workers in the region also praised the outreach, noting that many procedures were conducted free of charge, reducing referrals and easing the financial burden on families. Medical officers confirmed that patients reviewed so far are healing well.

The post-operative review, which began on January 1, 2026, follows a 12-day medical camp held in December 2025 to commemorate the 45th Tarehe Sita anniversary in the Kigezi sub-region.
