Police have arrested a 20-year-old man, Musana Ivan, following the circulation of a video on social media in which he is seen wearing a military jacket and making inciting statements while posing as a member of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
According to the Police Spokesperson, Ms. Rachael Kawala, preliminary investigations have established that Musana is not a UPDF officer and falsely presented himself as a member of the national army while recording the video, which was later uploaded to TikTok.
Security agencies tracked the suspect to Bukedea District, where he was arrested. He is currently being detained at Kawempe Police Station as investigations continue. Police say the case file will be forwarded to the Office of the Resident State Attorney for legal review and further guidance.
As the country prepares for the General Elections scheduled for 15th January 2026, Police have cautioned the public to exercise responsibility when using social media platforms. Authorities warn that content involving impersonation of security personnel, hate speech, or incitement is punishable under the law and may lead to prosecution.
