The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Battle Group 45, operating under the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), has reiterated its commitment to working closely with Somali security forces to strengthen joint operations against the Al-Shabaab terrorist group and enhance civilian protection.

This was emphasized during a meeting between the Battle Group 45 Commander, Col Justus Musenene, and Somali security officials at the unit’s headquarters in Barawe. Col Musenene noted that close coordination and unity of effort remain critical in countering the evolving tactics of Al-Shabaab and sustaining security gains in the area.

Barawe District Commissioner, Mr Cumar Abdullaahi, commended UPDF troops for their role in maintaining stability and stressed the importance of joint action to safeguard civilians. The 66 Brigade Commander, Col Liiban Yusuf Gare, also called on all security agencies to remain united in the fight against terrorism, noting that coordinated efforts are essential to restoring peace and security across Somalia.

The meeting brought together officers from the Somali National Army and AUSSOM, the Barawe Police Commander, local government officials, and community leaders.
