As the world continues facing a crisis of unequal access to the basic human need water, in Buikwe District of East Central Uganda, the crisis is a more gendered issue.
Buikwe just like Jinja is an industrial park; and many other economic activities like fishing, farming that promise economic growth. However, beyond this, safer alternatives are out of reach.
Behind the industrial growth are polluted streams that discharge their waters into the northern shores of Lake Victoria, while the Nile exits from the same basin near Jinja. Communities say, they are badly off, the water from the stream is polluted. The industries discharge wastes through the stream directly to Lake Victoria.
