Police in Kampala have arrested 14 suspects during an operation targeting individuals believed to be behind a series of aggravated robberies against boda boda riders.
The operation was conducted by the Kampala Metropolitan Police South on March 11, 2026, at Muganzirwaza Building, where several shops were searched as part of efforts to crack down on criminal networks linked to motorcycle theft and dismantling.
During the operation, police recovered several exhibits suspected to be connected to the robberies. These included six Bajaj Boxer motorcycles bearing registration numbers UDJ 081A, UEO 147V, UFH 038X, UDX 342P, UEJ 419G and UDU 722G. Officers also recovered sacks containing dismantled motorcycle spare parts, a blue polythene bag filled with assorted parts, two motorcycle frames, two sacks of metal components and motorcycle number plate frames.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects are part of a criminal group that has been targeting boda boda riders since 2025. The group is believed to lure riders from distant areas while posing as customers before robbing them using pangas. The stolen motorcycles are then dismantled and the parts sold.
Police say the operation is still ongoing as security teams continue efforts to track down other suspects believed to be on the run.
Authorities added that more updates will be provided as investigations continue.
