The Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, in collaboration with the Science, Technology and Innovation Secretariat, has convened a high-level strategic workshop aimed at strengthening coordination across Uganda’s innovation ecosystem.
The engagement brought together both leadership and technical teams to take stock of ongoing collaborations, identify existing gaps, and develop a shared framework to better align ICT and science, technology and innovation programmes with national priorities.
Speaking at the workshop, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of ICT, Dr. Aminah Zawedde, underscored the importance of digital skills in driving economic transformation.

“Digital skills are not a welfare programme. They are a value creation engine for jobs, businesses and national growth,” she said.
The Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Monica Musenero, said Uganda is shifting its focus from consumption to production, with an emphasis on building local capacity.
“We are moving from consumption to production — building the capacity to create and retain value here in Uganda,” she noted.
One of the key outcomes of the meeting was progress toward the soft launch of the Internet of Things (IoT) Lab, seen as a major step in bringing together ICT and innovation efforts to support technology development, deployment and enterprise growth.
